Longevity Inc.: Breakthrough, Buzzword or a Bit of Both?
True story. In 2015, I brought a cockamamie idea to Estée Lauder. Let’s ditch this whole anti-aging conversation & instead pioneer a youth-extending longevity cream with the ability to freeze time. We could partner with Laura Deming, the then 21-year-old co-founder of The Longevity Fund who had been exploring therapies to extend the human youth span since she was 8 years old. To say I was tossed out of my boss’ office on my keister is an understatement.
I share this not as sour grapes. Not as “I told you so.” Or look how smart I am. But as the perfect example of an idea whose time has come.
Fast forward to 2026. Laura Deming’s Longevity Fund has backed over a dozen companies who are rewriting the biology of aging.
& longevity is all the rage.
There are wellness clinics, supplements & sci-fi skincare. Ingredients touting resilience, not repair. Solutions promoting long-term biological function vs. short term surface-level fixes. Vitality vs. vanity.
The search for the fountain of youth is the oldest story ever told. From Gilgamesh to Ponce de León, humans have always sought to outwit time & beat the clock.
For decades, internationally recognized researcher, explorer & New York Times best-selling author, #DanBuettner has studied the world’s “#BlueZone” communities whose elders live with vim & vigor to record-setting ages.
Integrative medicine pioneer #Dr.AndrewWeil has dug deep into Okinawan Diet as one of the world premier models for longevity & disease prevention long before longevity was the category du jour.
The science was always out there in the ethos. The urgency wasn’t.
What’s new is who’s telling the story. & how credible & how loud they’ve become.
Today’s longevity-medicine movement carries the same primal hunger for eternal youth as the mythic stories of old. The players have changed. The money has escalated. The science - some of it, anyway - has evolved. The experts are everywhere.
The quest for immortality has shifted from mythology to a multi-billion-dollar industry built on a bold new thesis: aging is not inevitable. It’s engineerable.
From peptide injections to plasma exchange therapy, protein loading to cold plunges. Biohacks & blood tests. One gym buddy swears by BPC-157, a synthetic 15-amino-acid peptide derived from human gastric juice, touted as a miracle for rejuvenating tendon & ligament injuries at the cellular level. It is largely unapproved & poses real risks.
In the skincare biz, longevity is the next frontier & every cream, lotion & serum is glomming on to it.
Brands are swapping “anti-aging” for “longevity” on packaging & in messaging.
Adding ingredients with longevity associations attached - even when very little inside the jar has changed.
Good science or pseudo?
Where is the clinical evidence to support the ingredients being hyped.
How far is too far. Who decides? The industry is drowning in “mythinformation”. & someone needs to surface it.
Consumer confusion is real. & justified.
Which is exactly why the category needs a room where the real conversation can happen.
Insurgents is proud to have partnered with board-certified dermatologists @TedLain & @PattiFarris on The Science of Skin Longevity Summit – to help bring this provocative, unfiltered debate to life. From strategy to identity to logo design, we helped build a unified visual system & brand world that’s bold, forward-looking & above all, honest & trustworthy.
Following the success of their annual Science of Skin Summit, this premier event will bring hand-selected beauty industry leaders, entrepreneurs, scientists & physicians together to share boundary-pushing ideas that will help define the future of skin longevity.
Across three days of keynotes, panels & brand showcases, the Summit will cut through jargon & spotlight what’s known, what’s speculative & what’s outright scam. It will tackle the rigor vs. the unregulated. Surface myths. Explore dermatologists’ desires vs. patients’ demands. No holds barred.
It’s a meeting you won’t want to miss.
It takes place on February 19–21, 2027 at the Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Resort | Scottsdale, AZ.
